OMG I'm whining again!! This entry is mostly about the new MMORPG coming out, Age of Conan, which I mini-ranted about it
here, but this time around, it's about its
unbelievably stupid community. Seriously. I actually want to kick a puppy or something, they piss me off.
I'm looking forward to this game, so I've been frequenting the official AoC forums a lot as of late, and it just boggles my mind. Honestly, these guys (I'm sure a good 98% of the forum members are males) think that
just because the game is rated M for Mature, that everyone in the game is going to be "mature", but judging from the forum posts, it's obviously NOT. I've always believed adults are just as childish as a fourteen year old and I don't see anything proving me otherwise. They're name-calling and saying silly things like, "MMORPG X SUCKED, AOC IS GUNNA ROCK" and then cut down anyone who disagrees. It's like being in a room of stupid fanboys. Granted, not every single person in the forum is like that, but considering how many people are in that community, I find it really sad that I can think of only like ... 4 people I can actually respect because they don't start cussing at people who disagree with their opinions.
Not to mention how they think a game rated M gets a free pass to implement
anything into the game. Hey, I understand there's going to be virtual alcohol and virtual nipples in the game. Whatever. But then there are the people asking if they can kill NPC children in the game, rape NPC women and have whore houses and ... you get the idea? Their arguments for all that consists of 1) it's the WORLD OF CONAN!! THIS STUFF HAPPENS! (
No it doesn't!) and 2) IT'S RATED M!!! I seriously think they lack common sense! "M" is NOT a free pass to put in every immoral act/thing/whatever you can think of. A game that has all that would just be
banned. And yes, these are 18+ year old people. It's sick. I can't believe they're actually asking the developers to put this kind of stuff in the computer game.
Now, take the issue of PvP (Player vs Player; no need for consent to fight someone, focus on fighting against others) and PvE (Player vs Environment; need consent to fight someone, focus on playing the storyline) for example. Some guys think they're "so hardcore". The game is free-for-all (no factions or alliances (except guilds)) and what a group of vocal people want is to have a special server (or make ALL PvP servers) have full loot. That is, if you kill another player, you should be entitled to all their e-belongings. 'Kay, I don't really care if they want this (as long as there are some regular PvP servers for me, I'm fine) but I just
hate how they are literally dissing everyone who doesn't want to play on what they call the "Hardcore Server". Oh, yes, we're all little sissies, apparently. This sort of
elitism that's already appearing before the game is even released is
annoying the hell out of me. Being able to loot your opponent doesn't make you any more hardcore than the guy who wants to play on a PvE server. Their whole argument is that, "OMG This is the world of Conan where everything is brutal and people kill each other all the time, of course we should be able to loot their corpse!!!11!!!1" I mean ... yes, it's the world of Conan and it
is a brutal world, but at the same time, it's a
computer game. Some people just don't want to play the game that way. Personally, I don't want full loot, I like good ol' PvP, but I'm not saying, "Hey no full loot!" I'm just saying make a seperate server for it, but what I don't get are these guys saying, "SISSY!" I don't get it, do they want to convert people or do they want all servers "Hardcore PvP"? Others want to play on a different type of server, how does that affect them in any way? They can stick to their "Hardcore PvP" and we'll be on our regular PvP and PvE servers not bothering them, why are they so idiotic?
Anyway, if Funcom decides to be stupid and make them all looting servers (which I highly doubt; a looting server = MAJOR SOURCE OF AGGRAVATION and some people just won't play the game that way -- plus, some people are just casual gamers, don't want to deal with that kind of stuff), I'll probably make a change and try a PvE server. The game looks great and I enjoy PvP (even if I suck), but I'm not "hardcore" enough to want my belongings stripped off of me everytime I get ganked (and you
know there will be idiotic level 80's running around killing level 30's. What chance does a level 30 have against an 80 even if they're an amazing player and totally twinked?! So unfair -- oops! I'm being a sissy again!) There's already a death penalty where you lose a certain amount of XP every time you die -- why should I lose all my gear and items too?
For the record, I never post on the forum, I just lurk, but that's what I want to say. I don't want to get involved in any squabbling, and I don't want to have to put up with any idiocy directly. Not saying I'm "better" than everyone in that community, but at least I can keep my head straight and know when to shut up. A part of me dies every time I read a childish comment and realize it's some 30 year old who posted it.
Oh, and it's funny reading heated "arguments" with males(which are really just mindless name calling and people drawing facts out of their ass) and comparing it to heated arguments on forums dominated by females. Call me sexist or whatever, but I think females are definitely more mature when it comes to arguing.
Okay, I'm done :) That was nice, getting it all off my chest. Gimme a Pokemon MMORPG now!
